Internship report(Popla)

当研究室でのインターンシップを終えたPoplaさんから、レポートが届きました!4月から6月までの約3ヶ月間、お疲れ様でした。
We have received a report from Popla who has completed his internship in our lab! Thank you very much for your hard work over the 3 months from April to June.

This April–June 2026, I spent two months of my summer break as a visiting researcher in the Ohmori group at the Institute for Molecular Science (IMS), Okazaki.

This was the longest period I have ever lived in Japan, and also my first time returning to a full-time research environment after completing my PhD in 2024. Since then, I’ve been working as a lecturer at Chiang Mai University, which (as rewarding as it is) is very different from being a full-time scientist. So being here felt a bit like returning to a familiar version of myself, and working with everyone in the Ohmori group really brought back that scientific energy.

I learned about the Ohmori group through Cake, a good friend of mine who is now a postdoctoral researcher here. Cake had been encouraging me to visit IMS for a while, and I’m very glad I finally did. Thank you for opening the door for me to be part of such a warm, active, and genuinely fun group.

During my stay, I worked with the cold-atom quantum computer team. Although the team is large, I was really impressed by how well their tasks interfered constructively and pointed toward a common goal. This is clearly supported by strong organization and regular discussions that keep everyone aligned.

If I had to describe my role, it would be somewhere between a postdoc and an intern. In some aspects, I was able to share my experience, while in others, I learned new techniques and perspectives from the team. It was a very balanced and fulfilling experience.

I am truly thankful to everyone in the Ohmori group for this experience. It has broadened my perspective in many ways, and I will carry these insights back to my students and research group. I hope this visit marks the beginning of a continued connection, and I look forward to developing future collaborations as my career and group grow.

Thank you again for everything and until next time!
