インターンシップ

Internship Report(Lucas)

当研究室でのインターンシップを終えたLucasさんから、レポートが届きました!6月から10月までの約4ヶ月間、お疲れ様でした。
We have received a report from Lucas who has completed his internship in our lab! Thank you very much for your hard work over the 4 months from June to October.

Between June and October 2026, I had the opportunity to stay at work in the Ohmori group at IMS in Okazaki. Apart from the research, which aligned perfectly with my interest in cold-matter and laser physics, I was met with a group of wonderful people, both researchers and administrative staff. The highlight of my time here was spending time with the group members not only in the lab but also outside. I made some amazing friends in the other interns who were here, and I would always look forward to our journeys around Japan together.

The PIs of the group made a real effort to take care of the interns and to provide us with great opportunities to learn physics in an interactive way. There were informal weekly QEC lessons by Tomita-San which I thoroughly enjoyed, as well as multiple speakers from leading groups in neutral atom and Rydberg physics which were highlights of my time here. The access and responsibility we’re given regarding cutting edge technologies here as students is amazing, and it really allows you to experience working in a research-grade lab for a few months where you manage your own project, which is exactly the kind of experience I was looking for when coming here.

Some of the best friends I made here were the other interns, all of which I hope to see again soon. We travelled around Japan together by car on weekends and had great conversations at lunch and over coffee during the week. I really enjoyed the social aspects of life in Okazaki. Football on Wednesdays was a highlight, as were the many nights spent together over lemon sour.

The PIs and post-docs in the group are incredibly supportive, and I never felt like my questions went un-answered or were looked down upon. The atmosphere they foster here is free of judgement and stimulates you to explore physics and to learn alongside your peers. Within a few weeks, you find yourself presenting your work to the rest of the group which, although intimidating at first, is a great learning experience.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, which I will look back on with many fond memories. I gained so much valuable experience which I will carry through with me to future projects. Thank you to all the wonderful people I met here, I sincerely hope I meet you again soon.
