INTERNSHIP

Internship Report(Timothé)

We have received a report from Timothé who has completed his internship in our lab! Thank you very much for your hard work over the 6 months from May to October.当研究室でのインターンシップを終えたTimothéさんから、レポートが届きました!5月から10月までの約6ヶ月間、お疲れ様でした。

From May to October, I worked with the quantum computing team of Ohmori group as part of my end-of-study internship. Looking back, I feel incredibly lucky to have been given this opportunity of working with this amazing group and people but also living and traveling in Japan.

During my internship, I built and characterized a laser frequency stabilization system. I enjoyed being able to design and build my own little experiment. I have even been able to connect my system to the team’s quantum computer and trap atoms with it, which was very satisfying. The team has been very helpful and patient throughout the project, allowing me to learn and grow as a future scientist. Special mention to the administration staff as well, whose work and enthusiasm is truly remarkable, helping us spend a smooth and enjoyable time in Japan.

Living in Okazaki has been also an amazing experience. I landed in Japan afraid of feeling lonely or disconnected from my friends and I take off feeling sad of leaving the wonderful people I met there (and looking forward to seeing again my fellow French interns!). Lab members are not only coworkers but good friends to go have drinks and dinner with, while other interns are amazing travel companions. I even joined a wonderful Japanese tennis group which I will miss greatly. Okazaki itself is really nice to live in. So many good bars and restaurants, easy access to Nagoya and nature, I will miss OK néo and the onsen… All my weekends were filled with evermore crazy adventures and living here allowed us to experience Japan in a way you could never do as a tourist.

I thank the Ohmori group for welcoming me and all the people that I have met and who contributed to making this semester unforgettable. I learned many things which will be useful for my PhD, and I leave with my head full of memories. Dear reader, if you get to enjoy Ohmori’s Karaage bento, please have a little thought for all of us who miss it dearly.
