当研究室でのインターンシップを終えたArnabさんから、レポートが届きました!2023年6月から2024年5月までの11カ月間、お疲れ様でした。

When I got the internship in the OHMORI group, I was thrilled with joy as I had wanted to go to Japan for a long time. After one year of staying in Japan, I can confidently say that Japan exceeded my expectations in all aspects, from research to daily life.

When I arrived in Japan, I was welcomed by a wonderful team, and they made me feel at home, despite being in a different country. I enjoyed everyday life at the lab, from having lunch with everyone and hearing interesting stories from different countries (the lab was very international) to small coffee breaks that were essential to keeping us energetic throughout the day.

I gained valuable learning experiences as I got to lead my own project. The lab offered a lot of flexibility, allowing me to work on my project without the fear of making mistakes. Although it’s not a good habit to burn fibers without getting scolded by your professor, this environment gave me the courage to work independently and make progress in my experiments.

Whenever I got stuck with my experiment, there was always someone to help me figure out the problem. If I had any questions, I could go to the senior members, who were always eager to clear my doubts. Every senior member was a great teacher, and I could approach them anytime with my questions. I truly enjoyed the weekly meetings where I could discuss my progress and learn about other projects in the lab. For me, Prof. Sylvain was an excellent supervisor. Before coming to Japan, I had very little experience in the field of ultracold atoms, but after one year, I feel confident about pursuing my PhD in the same field. The excellent administration team also helped make my life in Japan much easier.

Outside of work, I enjoyed many dinner parties with lab members, getting to know their personalities beyond the lab. With so many international interns, I had the opportunity to explore different places in Japan on weekends. Japan is a beautiful country with amazing travel spots and diverse cuisines. I will always remember the cherry blossom season and the majestic view of Mount Fuji. I also experienced different cultures from countries like France, Germany, and Thailand. There were events where I met people outside my lab and made many friends.

Overall, my experience in Japan was very fulfilling. I learned a lot from all the members, enjoyed Japanese culture and cuisine, met people from all over the world, and took many memorable pictures. If you are looking for an internship, I would definitely recommend this group.
