Conference Report (Photonics 2023, Vikas)

Vikas attended The Photonics 2023 held in Bengaluru, India,  from 5 to 10 July. We have received a report from him, so please take a look!
当研究室のVikasさんが、7/5〜10にインドのベンガルで開催されたThe Photonics 2023に参加しました。その様子がわかるレポートがVikasさんから届きましたので、どうぞご覧ください!

Photonics Conference is the premier conference in India in the field of Photonics science and technology. The first Photonics Conference was held at the Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc.), Bengaluru, India in 1992. The Conference is organized biennially in different parts of the country.
The Photonics 2023 is organized by IISc Bengaluru from 5th-10th July 2023. The Conference consists of 4 plenary talks, 42 invited talks,128 oral presentations, 242 poster presentations, 2-panel discussions, and 3 industry talks. There were More than 400 National and International participants in the Photonics 2023 Conference.

The conference mainly focused on photon-based quantum communication and entanglement and classical optics.Prof. Urbasi Sinha from the Raman Research Institute Banglore(RRI), proposed a nice idea of Quantum Entanglement using Satellite Technology and the group have demonstrated the prototype system recently(Communication Physics 6,116,(2023)).Other interesting talks include the tutorial on the fundamentals of Optics and Photonics by Prof. K Thyagarajan (Formerly Professor of Physics at IIT Delhi ) a great Teacher and Professor who authored many books (roughly 8-9) on the fundamentals of optics and photonics; Engineering Challenges for the Emerging Quantum Networks by Prof. Prem Kumar (Northwestern University, USA); Hong-Ou-Mandel Interferometry-based quantum sensor by Prof. Goutam Samanta (PRL Ahmedabad), etc. Also, there were many interesting posters on the generation of entangled photons by SPDC, the generation of structured light patterns by using the Spatial Light Modulator(SLM) and its application towards holography..etc.

Oral Presentation: My presentation was scheduled as the last speaker of the session so, I got more time than allotted for the discussion after the presentation. Although the audience is not from our research field still they were interested in knowing the procedure and technical details related to the pulse laser we used. It was a good opportunity to advertise our research among the Researchers who came from almost all good Institutes in India.
Cultural Evening: “Yakshagana” Story Title: ‘Bhasmasura Mohini: I also enjoyed the local Kannada cultural event. There was a beautiful performance by all the actors of the event ‘Bhasmasura Mohini’.
I would like to thank Ohmori-sensei for allowing me to attend the Conference. I thank  to Sylvain-san, Tomita-san, Vineet-san,Mahesh, and Chew-san for their valuable suggestions during the preparation for the presentation. I also thank Sakai-san, Koshida-san, Kawamoto-san, Akane-san, Nishioka-san for their help and support. Finally, I would like to thank all the group members for their help.
